J.O.B...Just Over Broke

The daily grind. If you're not doing what you want to be doing for a living, it pretty much sucks. Getting up super early, gridlock traffic on the freeway, punching a clock to go sit behind a desk to complete mundane tasks for 8 plus hours a day equates to hell on earth for many of us. Not even payday can compensate for the boredom, pointless meetings and screwy office politics that one is forced to put up with daily. Bottom line is you're overworked and underpaid! When you have a J.O.B. this is your life...in a nutshell.

"oh u hate ur job? Why didn't u say so? They have a support group for that. Its called EVERYBODY and they meet at the bar"

With today's economy being so bad, it has been said that if you have gainful employment--happy with it or not--to consider yourself blessed. According to a recent survey, only 45 percent of Americans are satisfied with their work. That was the lowest level ever recorded by the Conference Board research group in more than 22 years of studying the issue. But who's really surprised to hear this bit of info? Most people who go to work, only do so because they have to. At best, a job barely pays the bills. It offers little to no fullfilment and usually no real growth. Add in the rising cost of health insurance digging into your take home pay and it's hard to really appreciate bringing home what's left of your check!

Let's compare, a job vs. a career: jobs are "safe" and basic. A job is someone "doing an activity in exchange for payment". A career, on the other hand, is "the pursuit of a lifelong ambition and requires special education/training" as well as some risk taking.

My career goal is to become an esthetician and spa owner. I've always had a passion for all things that pertain to the beauty industry and I realize how a great makeover can really change a woman's life. Currently, I have a job in Human Resources and short of the money, I'm not happy. It's a boring field that I have not one grain of interest in, kind of just fell into and hopefully will be climbing out of very soon. The stress of not doing what I love is beginning to wear on me and you can definitely include me in that 45% of people unhappy in their work.

There are some people in this world who are content with working for a paycheck and then there are those who wish to be fulfilled in what they are doing. Me, I fall into the latter category. With a job, you'll always be "just over broke"--in your pocket as well as your spirit.
